Construction on a $1.25 million upgrade to Public Water Supply District No. 2 system will be starting soon.

Jim Bryan, system manager, said a pre-construction meeting with the contractor was held last week.

“We will be replacing a 40-year-old water main,” Bryan said.

The new line runs between K Highway and Coon Creek Road. The project will replace 6-inch water line with 12-inch water line.

“We are also making well improvements to our No. 1 well and installing a generator,” he said.

Bryan said water loss and growth to the area are the two main reasons for the project.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is giving the water district a helping hand with the project to the tune of $500,000.

The funds will be used in conjunction with a $750,000 loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Program. Construction on the project is expected to take 210 days.

DNR sold $50 million in bonds in November 2007. The sale of the bonds allows the department to provide the district with grant funds to support the Clean Water Initiative for water and wastewater improvements.

The department’s Water Protection Program will administer the grant funds. The department is committed to working closely with communities to assist with funding efforts that support water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects, as well as provide a financial savings.
